A retired German ambassador whose career spanned senior diplomatic and national-security posts across three decades, with deep engagement in European–Arab strategic affairs.
His diplomatic service included appointments as Germany’s Ambassador to India, Estonia and Kenya, and as the country’s first Special Envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
At the heart of government, he headed the Foreign and Security Affairs division of the Federal Chancellery and served in the Foreign Office during the years of German reunification. He is a founding figure of the German–Arab Gulf Dialogue on Security and Cooperation.
