Dr. Birgit Wetzel is a German economic journalist and analyst whose reporting and research focus on energy, Eastern Europe, Russia, the Caucasus and Central Asia. She works across television, radio and print and combines direct field reporting with geopolitical and economic analysis.
Her interdisciplinary studies at Freie Universität Berlin covered Slavic and American studies, economics and history, followed by doctoral research. Her professional work has also included project management and journalist training in Central Asia. Within the Organisation, she contributes expertise on European energy security, Eurasian connectivity and the political economy of Europe’s eastern neighbourhood.
